WHATS NEW!

  • 6th Grade Trip
The sixth grade students were fortunate this year to get funding to go to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh.  A Google grant, the Carnegie Science Center, and the Girard School District Foundation were generous in making  it all possible for students to attend this trip. Transportation costs, entrance into the Science Center and Sports Works Facility, lunch, and "Cosmic Collision" at the Buhl Planetarium were provided.  The sixth grade students did an awesome job representing the Girard School District. We all had a lot of fun playing with the exhibits and experiencing both facilities.
Be sure to check out pictures from the trip HERE

  • Returning Student
Rice Avenue Middle School was pleasantly surprised to receive a visit on Friday, May 11, 2018 by a former RAMS student, Jordan Noland!  Jordan had requested the opportunity to speak to the teachers to express his appreciation for all that they had done for him during his middle-school years, which ultimately shaped him into the great young man he is today.  Jordan has just completed his second year at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and he is home for the summer.  He brought many smiles, laughs, and even some tears with his heartfelt thank you which was coincidentally given on the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week.  What a great way to end the week!

Autumn was one of nine United Way donors selected randomly during the organization's Prize Surprize held April 30 - May 4. The winners were notified when United Way officials and the prize sponsors surprised individuals at work which included a stop on May 4 to Rice Avenue Middle School. United Way donors contributing at least $3/week are eligible to be entered in to the Prize Surprize drawing held annually as a way to incentivize supporting the local organization. • ROUTE 20 BRIDGE UPDATE
    From the Superintendent:
On the afternoon of April 19th, PennDot announced they have refined the plans for the Rt. 20 bridge replacement in Girard to include one lane to remain open during daylight hours. For Girard School District and our community this is exceptionally good news.  We are no longer facing the rerouting of the majority of our buses and altered start and end times for our schools during the construction phase.
We were in communication with Parke Wentling the day after  PennDot revealed the plan to completely close the bride, eliminating all east/west travel on Rt. 20, at public meeting.  Since that time, Representative Wentling has been working with PennDot and was instrumental in the redesign of the project.
Yesterday, Parke Wentling called me and we discussed  the details of the new plans, all of which benefit our District. On behalf of the School Board, students, faculty, staff and our families, I thanked Representative Wentling for his work on our behalf.
