Elk Valley Action Based Learning Lab To Produce Great Results for Kindergarners

Last Year, Elk Valley Elementary School implemented a new “Action Based Learning Lab” for its Kindergarten students.  Students attend the Learning Lab every day for 20 minutes and are put through a series of movement tasks that are designed to stimulate different areas of the brain, which, in turn, prepare their brain for learning.  The Action Based Learning Lab, developed by Neurokinesiologist- Jean Blaydes Madigan and Physical Educaton Teacher Cindy Hess is incorporated in schools around the country.  The latest research from two school districts;  Indianapolis, IN Public Schools  and Woodbridge, VA shows that Action Based Learning Labs are a success.  Students in these districts consistently  and dramatically improved reading skills when using the Action Based Learning Lab, moreso than students who did not utilize the Lab.  For example, students who were in need of  reading help improved their rate of word recognition by  almost 100 percent (combining the Learning Lab with remediation), while students who received only remediation improved their scores  by only 1 percent!  Look for great things to come from the Action Based Learning Lab at Elk Valley.
