Wednesday, April 26, 2017                                                            

Day 147— Tutorial Block #1      

 

1.      Student Council’s Blood Drive will take place on Friday May 5th.  Those students who are 16 years and older, weigh at least 110 pounds and are tattoo and piercing free for a year are permitted to donate blood.  Sign up in Mr. Mikovich’s classroom.

 

2.      PA Job Corp will be here on Tuesday for a career presentation in the auditorium during tutorial period.  Anyone interested in learning about these careers are to report as soon as the tutorial bell rings.

 

3.      Tomorrow the Navy recruiters will be here during all four blocks in the auditorium.  If you are interested, please come down.

 

4.      Incomplete grades are due to be made up by 5/5/2017.  Anyone who makes up an incomplete grade and would like a new print out of their report card can stop in the Guidance Office.

5.      Key Club meeting during tutorial on Wednesday in Mrs. Jerome’s classroom 205.

 

6.      There will be a Free Christian College Fair this Thursday being held at Erie First Christian Academy from 6:30-8:30pm.

 

7.      There will be a prom committee meeting Thursday in Ms. Bartone’s Classroom

 

8.      The deadline to apply for the Student Transportation Inc. Cares Foundation scholarship is this Sunday April 30th.  Applications must be postmarked by this date!!

 

9.      There will be a brief meeting tomorrow morning during homeroom with Coach Johnson in the cafeteria for all Wrestlers at this time. All wrestlers need to report to the Cafeteria now to meet with Coach. 

 

10.  Unified Track Team members will be dismissed at 2:10 today for their meet at Ft. Lebeouf.

 

11.  The girls won 114-21 and were led by Ashlie Gariepy, Ashley Zinz, Tiffani Pound, Camryn McCall and Cassie Carr.

The boys won 82-59 and were led by Scott Ecke, Corey Zimmer, Morgan Silman, and Jake Wetzel

 

District 10 Championship Qualifiers were the boys 4x400m relay team of Austin Foster, Corey Russell, Corey Zimmer and Scott Ecke.

 

Next up for the track team is Harbor Creek on Thursday.

Tuesday, April 25, 2017                                                                                               

Day 146— Tutorial Block #4                

 

1.       Law Enforcement Day at Mercyhurst will be held this Wednesday.  If you are interested in this field, please sign up with Ms. Spinelli.  There will be one bus going.  The first 45 students that sign up will be going.

8.       On Saturday the softball team defeated North East 7 to 4.  Yesterday the softball team beat Mercyhurst Prep 5 to 0.  Katelyn Lawson and Sydney Wetzel combined for a one hit shut out.

 

9.       The boys varsity baseball team beat the undefeated Fairview Tigers last night 2-1 to earn first place in the region. The Jackets improved their season record to 6-4 and 6-0 in region play.  Corey Mason pitched the complete game and earned his third win of the season. Blake Essman broke a 1-1 tie in the 5th inning with a double scoring Justin Driscoll. Adam Muse also collected 2 hits and the other RBI scoring Clay Schlosser. The Jackets next game is home Wednesday versus Mercyhurst Prep at 4pm.

 

10.    The following students have been recognized as Erie County Vo-Tech students of the month:

Cody Ahlbrandt in Automotive Technologies

Hunter Bruno in Computer Networking

Corey Mason in Drafting & Design

Aaryha De Santis in Graphic Communication

 

11.    There will be an English Festival Meeting today during block 4 tutorial for all students.  If you cannot make the meeting, please see Ms. Skelton sometime today.

 

12.    The practice scheduled for tonight for next year’s marching band drumline has been cancelled. We will practice again next Tuesday.

 

13.    There will be an open practice for anyone interested in being in next year’s colorguard tonight at 6 PM in the (high school) cafeteria.

 

14.    There will be a Free Christian College Fair this Thursday being held at Erie First Christian Academy from 6:30-8:30pm.

Monday, April 24, 2017                                                                 

Day 145— Tutorial Block #3      

 

1.      National Honor Society students are reminded to bring in permission slips for the annual Wells Park Cleanup. Forms are due to Mrs. Lueck by Thursday April 27th.

 

2.      Law Enforcement Day at Mercyhurst will be held this Wednesday.  If you are interested in this field, please sign up with Ms. Spinelli.  There will be one bus going.  The first 45 students that sign up will be going. 

 

3.      If there are any students interested in a job working with animals.  Paws & Claws is hiring boarding attendants, if you want to find out more information stop down to the Guidance office for more information.

 

4.      Intramural Basketball tonight starting at 5:00pm in the high school gymnasium.

 

5.      The Varsity baseball team beat Seneca Friday in dramatic fashion with a 16-15 walk off victory. The game was tied at 15 when Adam Muse singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th.

 The Jackets built up a nine run lead after 5 innings that they let slip away. Clay Schlosser started the game and threw three strong innings. The team collected 11 hits, Shane Boyles, Justin Driscoll, Blake Essman and Jake Wassong all had multiple hits. Peyton Johnson recorded the win. The Jackets are now 5-4 on the season and 5-0 in the region. Today at 4 pm at home the team faces Fairview for the first half championship. 

 

6.      Dr. Johnston needs to see all of the 9th-11th grade students who participated in the TSA TEAMS competition this year for a very brief meeting during tutorial.

 

7.      At Saturday’s Fairview Track & Field Invitational:

Tiffani Pound took 1st place in the discus and 3rd place in the shot put

Ashlie Gariepy took 2nd place in the triple Jump

Cassie Carr took 2nd place in the 3200m run

Camryn McCall took 3rd place in the 200m dash

Ellie Ozimek took 3rd place in the triple jump

The girls 4x400 m relay team of Macey Abbott, Ashley Zinz, Madeline Luxon and Camryn McCall took 3rd place

District 10 Championship Qualifiers were Madeline Luxon in the 100m dash and Nate Ward in the discus.

Congratulations to all! 

Next up for the track team is Iroquois tomorrow at home.  Come out and support the team.

 

8.      Students going to stock fish today from the outdoor adventure classes-you are to be dismissed at 10:15 from your 2nd block class. Meet outside the nurse’s office.

 

9.      There will be an English Festival meeting during fourth block tutorial in Ms. Skelton's room on Tuesday for all participants.  If you have not turned in your permission slip, please bring it with you to the meeting.

Day 141— Tutorial Block #2      

 

1.      Gifted students have a workshop today from 8:30-11:15 in the library

 

2.      Attention all students who plan to participate in the spring clean-up/service hours project here at GHS tomorrow morning:  There will be a meeting today during tutorial in the auditorium. 

 

3.      English Festival participants are reminded to pick up their permission slips and turn them in as soon as possible.  The trip is next week.  Listen to announcements for an upcoming meeting during tutorial.

 

4.      If you are age 14-18 and interested in exploring the Great Lakes on the U.S. Brig Niagara visit www.flagshipniagara.org to apply for a spot!  Session 1 is June 7-20 and Session 2 is June 22-July 6.

 

5.      There will be a prom committee meeting today during tutorial in Ms. Bartone’s classroom. 

 

6.      NHS members are reminded to sign up to tutor next week!  The schedule is in the Guidance office.

 

7.      At yesterday's track meet against North East, the girls won 80 to 70 while boys lost 95 to 55.

Leading the way for the girls were Camryn McCall, Ashlie Gariepy and Cassie Carr.  The boys were led by Jake Wetzel, Corbin Zitalone and Corey Zimmer. 

 District qualifiers were Macey Abbott in the 400, Ashlie Gariepy in long jump and the girls 1600m relay team of Macey Abbott, Alexis Fiolek, Madeline Luxon and Camryn McCall.

8.      The Envirothon Team will meet today during tutorial in Mrs. Schwartz’s room.

Day 140— Tutorial Block #1      

 

1.      There are several local scholarships for seniors available on the counter in the Guidance Office with various requirements, stop in the Guidance Office and check them out!

 

2.      The senior class will hold a senior meeting starting at 10:30 AM today in the Auditorium.  The early time is to accommodate Vo-Tech students who eat lunch during our tutorial time.

 

 

3.      Camp EMS applications are now available in the Guidance Office.  The camp will be held June 25-June 30th this year. 

 

4.      Gifted students have a workshop tomorrow from 8:30-11:15 in the library

 

5.      There will be a meeting tomorrow during tutorial for all students involved in the spring cleanup service project. See Mr. Louis for details. Please inform Mrs. Jerome, Mrs. Lueck and Ms. Huster.

10.  The Varsity baseball team beat Conneaut last night 12-2. The Jackets are now 4-4 on the season but remain tied for first in the region with a 4-0 record. The senior battery of Corey Mason and Shane Boyles worked a 96 pitch, 7-inning , complete game. The offense was paced by senior captains Clay Schlosser who had three hits, including a double and a triple, Justin Driscoll who had two hits and Corey Mason who netted 2 RBI's. The Jackets next home game is this Friday at 4 pm vs. Seneca.

Day 139— Tutorial Block 4        

 

1.      There are several local scholarships for seniors available on the counter in the Guidance Office with various requirements, stop in the Guidance Office and check them out!

 

2.      All National Honor Society members should check Schoology for information from our last meeting. In addition, there are many service hour opportunities available for April and May. Please sign up if you can help!

 

3.      There will be a PBIS meeting today in Miss Huster’s room, all must attend.

2.      Service Hours Opportunity:  Celebrate Earth Day at GHS!  We are planning a spring clean-up all around campus on Saturday, April 22nd.  Registration sheets are available in the front office, and service hours count toward all clubs and organizations.  Ask Senora Gerome, Mrs. Klemm, or Mr. Louis for details.

 

3.      All National Honor Society members should check Schoology for information from our last meeting. In addition, there are many service hour opportunities available for April and May. Please sign up if you can help!

 

4.      Any student that would like to sing with the chorus in the spring concert and is not currently enrolled in the class is invited to rehearse with Mrs. Service after school every Thursday from 2:45-4:00 in the chorus room.   Rehearsals will begin Thursday, April 20th.  Whether you've been in chorus before, or you just want to give it a try, all are welcome." 

 

5.      All English Festival participants need to stop in Ms. Skelton’s room to pick up their permission slips and information about the trip.  You have 2 weeks to finish reading all your books for the festival.

 

6.      The Girls Softball team is dismissed at 2:10 today

 

7.      Mr. Tomlinson needs to meet with all members of the Yearbook staff during Tutorial, it is imperative that you attend.

 

8.      There will be a P BIS meeting tomorrow in Miss Huster’s room, all must attend.

1.       PLEASE remember there is tutoring in the SRC from 7:15 – 7:45

 

2.       There are several local scholarships for seniors available on the counter in the Guidance Office with various requirements, stop in the Guidance Office and check them out!

 

3.       Junior soccer players, don’t forget, you have a meeting today at 6:00 p.m. to pick up your warm-up shirts in Mrs. Tolbert’s room.

7.     Any student that would like to sing with the chorus in the spring concert and is not currently enrolled in the class is invited to rehearse with Mrs. Service after school every Thursday from 2:45-4:00 in the chorus room.   Rehearsals will begin Thursday, April 20th.  Whether you've been in chorus before, or you just want to give it a try, all are welcome."

9.      Girard Varsity trounced NOrtheestern last night 15-1  in 5 innings. Senior Captain Clay Schlosser pitched 4 shutout innings and had 2 hits. For the second game in a row Adam Muse had the game winning RBI. Jackets are now 2-0 in region play. Next game is at home tomorrow at 4 pm vs Northeast.

 

10.   The Tennis Team will be dismissed at 2:10 for their match at Mecryhurst Prep.

1.     If you would like to take band or choir next year and thought it would conflict with RCI please stop by the guidance office to add it to your requests.

5.       There will be a short meeting for everyone currently in marching band on Friday morning at 7:20 in the music room

 

6.       There will be a practice for everyone who wants to be in next year’s drum line next Tuesday at 6 PM in the music room

1.     Attenion girls in grades 9 through 11, applications for the 58th annual Pennsylvania Grape Queen competition are now available in the Guidance Office.  Successful applicants will represent the Pennsylvania Grape Industry for 1 year.  Minimum scholarships for the Queen and Princesses are $750 and $500 respectively.  The application deadline is May 22nd.

 

2.     If you would like to take band or choir next year and thought it would conflict with RCI please stop by the guidance office to add it to your requests.

 

3.       Morgan Davenport, Kaitlyn Baldwin and Faelyn Foster should report to Mrs. Lueck’s room at this time to pick up their prom dresses.

2.       Do you need community service hours?  Global Youth Service Day is on April 22 and we need volunteers to help clean up around Girard and Lake City.  If you are interested please see Ms. Klemm or Mr. Louis for more details

 

3.     The track team is dismissed today at 1:45, the bus leaves the stadium at 2:10

 

4.     Mr. Andrews’ 3rd block class is to eat 2nd lunch today.

2.       Mrs. Bartone’s first block class needs to report to the classroom today for class. Mrs. Bartone’s first block class only!!!

 

3.       10TH Grade will report to the Auditorium during tutorial today for a presentation.

2.       John Mattson has been named the Erie County Vocational Technical High School’s student of the month for being respectful. Congratulations John

 

3.       Intermural Basketball tonight in the high school gymnasium 5 to 7pm
