Day 176— Tutorial Block # 1

 

1.      Any Seniors that have a parking permit for their vehicle, please return to the office.

 

2.      Cheerleading tryouts for football, basketball, and competition teams will take place on:

Today, June 7th

Tomorrow, June 8th

Friday, June 9th

The team will meet and practice in the cafeteria from 3-5 PM on all three of the days.  Cheerleaders must attend all three days of the tryouts.

 

3.      All students in yearbook and interested in joining the yearbook staff next year should meet with Mr. Tomlinson during tutorial today (Wednesday).

 

4.      All students interested in participating in Model UN next year please meet with Mr. Tomlinson during tutorial today (Wednesday).

 

5.      Seniors attending the class trip on Thursday are reminded that we will leave GHS at 10:00 AM and you must be in homeroom and blocks 1 & 2.  Please dress school appropriate while here in the morning.

Day 174— Tutorial Block # 3

 

1.       All National Honor Society SENIORS only should see Mrs. Lueck in the next day or two, to receive your honor cord for graduation.

 

2.      Students taking the AP pilot test are reminded to report to the SRC following homeroom

 

3.       Boys basketball open gym tonight from 6-7:30 in the high school gymnasium

 

4.       The agenda book logo contest is over! All entries will be displayed in the cafeteria starting tomorrow! Please take a minute at lunch to check them out and visit the PBIS table to vote! Your participation is needed! Thank you to everyone that entered! It is going to be a tough decision this year! We have many awesome entries!

 

5.       There will be a quick PBIS meeting today in Miss Husters’ room- all must attend as this is our last meeting of the year!

Day 173— Tutorial Block # 2

 

At this time there will be a brief Wrestling meeting in the Café with Coach Johnson, so all students interested in wrestling please report to the Café to meet with Coach, and please bring your Chromebooks.

 

1.      Anyone interested in playing soccer next year there is a mandatory soccer meeting this evening at 6:00pm in the High School Auditorium.

 

2.       Attention all Once Upon a Mattress cast members:  If you signed up for a picture DVD, you need to bring in your $10.00 to Mrs. Skelton immediately!  

 

3.      Reminder that there is a Senior Meeting today during tutorial in the Auditorium.  All seniors please attend, there will be lots of important details discussed for the end of the school year.

 

4.      Due to weather concerns early next week, the advisors and I have decided to move the senior trip to Thursday June 8th.  With the move comes some adjusting of senior finals. 

-Block 1 & 2 Finals will be on Tuesday June 6.  Seniors will need to be in attendance for their block 3 & 4 class.

      -Block 3 & 4 finals will be on Wednesday June 7th.  Seniors will need to be in attendance for their block 1 & 2 class.

 

5.      The agenda book contest wraps up today!! Please submit your entries to Miss Huster by the end of the day!

There will be a PBIS meeting on Monday in Miss Huster’s room during tutorial, all must attend!!!

 

6.      Any boys in 9th -11th grades interested in playing Basketball next school year, there will be an informational meeting during tutorial in the Gymnasium today.

Day 172— Tutorial Block # 1

 

 

1.      The agenda book contest is underway! All entries must be submitted to Miss Huster by this Friday! A new design is needed and can be put on 8x11 paper!

 

2.      Anyone interested in playing soccer next year there is a mandatory soccer meeting tomorrow evening at 6:00pm in the High School Auditorium.

 

3.      Anyone interested in Cheerleading for next school year’s team, there will be an informational meeting during tutorial today in Room 111 – Mr. Amenta’s classroom.  Stop in and get to meet the new coach and find out important information.

 

4.      Key Club meeting today in room 205 during tutorial.

 

5.      There will be a brief golf meeting during tutorial.

 

6.      Attention all Once Upon a Mattress cast members:  If you signed up for a picture CD of the show (and every cast member did sign up), you need to bring in your money ($10) to Mrs. Skelton immediately!  If you are unsure if you paid, please check with Mrs. Skelton.  She has a list.

Day 170— Tutorial Block # 3

 

 

1.      The agenda book contest is underway! All entries must be submitted to Miss Huster by this Friday! A new design is needed and can be put on 8x11 paper! There is no color limit – so be creative!

 

2.      Anyone interested in playing soccer next year there is a mandatory soccer meeting this Friday June 2nd at 6:00pm in the High School Auditorium.

 

3.      Anyone interested in swimming on next years’ high school team, please attend an informational meeting with Coach Drushel tomorrow during tutorial in the Auditorium.

 

4.      There will be a meeting for all students in 9th -11th grade who are interested in playing football next school year today during tutorial in the Auditorium.

 

5.      Yearbook won't be meeting this afternoon.

 

6.      Juniors in the National Honor Society:  We need five more volunteers to sign up to help usher at Graduation. Please see Mrs. Lueck this week if you can help.

 

7.      Mrs. Lueck would like to congratulate all members of the National Honor Society for their wonderful work this year out in the community. Just to name a few activities: members read to students at Elk Valley, they coached in sports camps, cleaned hiking trails and helped with Angel Trees.  NHS members completed a total of 2116 hours of service, exceeding requirements by 256 hours! That’s 88 days of volunteering! Congratulations and thanks for all that you do!

3.      Reminder to all those students that are attending Prom tomorrow evening…. If you purchased a ticket – your name will be on list of students – there will be tables outside the office to sign out at 10:45am (start of tutorial).  You MUST have a signed parent/ guardian note to excuse you at that time for Prom, you will bring your excuse note with you at 10:45 to sign out. 

 

4.      Any student singing in the spring concert should attend rehearsal after school today from 2:45-3:45 with Mrs. Service

2.      TODAY is the last day to purchase prom tickets.

 

3.      Any student interested in coming out for the Girard Cross Country Team.  There will be a meeting Today after school at 2:45, in the school library with Coach Clawson.

 

4.       Congratulations to the following medalists at the District 10 Track & Field Championships:  Ashlie Gariepy took 4th place in the long jump

Tiffani Pound took 7th place in the discus

The Girls 4 by 100 meter relay of Tiffani Pound, Maddy Luxon, Ashlie Gariepy, and Camryn McCall took 7th place

The Girls 4 by 400 meter relay team of Macey Abbott, Ashlie Zinz, Maddy Luxon and Camryn McCall took 6th place.

10.  Those students attending the Seawolves game on Wednesday are reminded to bring extra money to buy the overpriced concessions.  Lunch is included in your ticket price.  The bus leaves GHS at 10:00 AM sharp

Day 164— No Tutorial—Keystone Exams

 

1.      Summer Jam 2017!  Students interested in gaining their first summer job should see Mr. Louis or Mr. Mayes about the Summer Jam.  We can hire up to 8 students to work this summer in an 8 week program.  Students hired will work with GSD maintenance and tech departments and will be trained in essential employee skills.  This is good money, possibly $2000, and a great opportunity for our students who may need a little scratch this summer!

 

2.      Any students interested in being the mascot for the 2017 football season please come to the office and pick up an information sheet.

7.      Tenth graders invited to pursue NHS membership, all responses and Information sheets are due to Mrs. Lueck today. No late forms will be accepted. Please know there will be an informational meeting Wednesday morning at 7:25am in Mrs. Lueck’s room to discuss the NHS Induction process. All students should plan on attending.

1.      A reminder to all National Honor Society members, you have a brief meeting afterschool in the auditorium. Service hour forms are due and we will elect new officers for next year. All members must attend.

1.      Student Council’s annual Seawolves field trip will take place Wednesday May 24th for all Students.  Permission slips are available on the office counter, bring the completed slip with $9.00 to Mr. Mikovich’s room. There are 50 spots remaining.

 

2.      Any senior who knows where they want their final transcripts sent, please sign the list in the Guidance Office.

 

3.      Link Crew apps are due by Friday. Thank you to all sophomores and juniors who have shown interest.  This is a great leadership opportunity and we are excited to bring this program to our school.  Drop applications off in the front office.

 

4.      Attention all Once Upon a Mattress Cast Members:

If you ordered a picture CD, please take $10 to Mrs. Skelton as soon as possible, as the CDs will be delivered soon.

10.  Attention all students:  Today we will be testing for the Keystone Literature exam.  If you are taking the exam, please be sure to turn your phone off and leave it in your locker.  Report to your assigned testing room immediately for the start of first block today.

 

11.  A reminder to all teachers and students.  There really should be no hall passes or restroom breaks during first block.  Please limit any movement in the halls and be sure to remain silent if you must travel between classes during first block as a result of classes on the skinny schedule.

6.      This past weekend Becky Wahlenmayer, Libby Wahlenmayer, and Sara Skwaryk earned the title of State Champion at the History Day contest . The girls won first place for their exhibit: "A Force of Nature": Wangari Maathai Fights for the Environment and for the People.

They will now move on to the National Contest held in Washington D.C. next month where they will compete against students from all 50 states and some international schools from across the globe. Great Job girls!

Day 158— Tutorial Block # 4

 

1.      There will be an Afternoon Assembly For Juniors & Seniors in the Auditorium today.. Following Bell Schedule #5.  All Freshmen and Sophomores will remain in Block 4 for the time.

 

2.      Student Council’s annual Seawolves field trip will take place Wednesday May 24th for all Freshmen.  Permission slips are available on the office counter, bring the completed slip with $9.00 to Mr. Mikovich’s room.  There are 90 spots available.

 

3.      Just a reminder, The Elk Valley Garden Club Scholarship is due to be returned to the Guidance office by this Friday May 12th!!

 

4.      Any senior who knows where they want their final transcripts sent, please sign the list in the Guidance Office.

 

 

5.      The Unified Track team beat Fairview, and came within 4 points of winning their home meet against Fort LeBoeuf and Northwestern yesterday. Amber Kramer grabbed a 2nd place finish in the 100 meters while Mikaila Boothe placed 2nd and Tanner Bryan added 3rd place points in the 400 meters. Erin Schulz, Bhima Subba, and MacKensie Robie all threw personal bests in the Mini-Jav to earn the team big points. The "workhorse" Ben Stewart ran both relay events for his team, while also earning a first place in the 400 meters, and a 3rd place in the Mini-Jav. The team competes at the league Championships next Tuesday at General McLane.

 

6.      The Track team is dismissed at 1:10pm.

 

7.      The varsity baseball team beat Seneca last night 11-4 behind the strong pitching of senior captain Clay Schlosser. Schlosser, JD Driscoll and Peyton Johnson led the offensive attach with two hits each. The Jackets improved to 9-1 in the region and remain in first place. Next game is today at 4 pm at home vs Northwestern.

Day 157— Tutorial Block # 2

 

1.      Student Council’s annual Seawolves field trip will take place Wednesday May 24th for all Freshmen.  Permission slips are available on the office counter, bring the completed slip with $9.00 to Mr. Mikovich’s room.  There are 90 spots available.

 

 

2.      There will be a Junior class meeting today during Tutorial for ALL Juniors in the Auditorium.

 

3.      Just a reminder, The Elk Valley Garden Club Scholarship is due to be returned to the Guidance office by this Friday May 12th!!

 

4.      All Varsity and JV Girls Basketball players should report to the Team locker room Friday during tutorial to be sized for the new uniforms.

 

5.      The Unified Track Team has a home meet at 4:00. Please come out and show your support as they take on Fairview, Ft. Lebeouf, and Northwestern.

 

6.      There will be band practice tomorrow evening at 6 PM in the music room. We will be practicing for the Memorial Day parade and for the spring concert.

 

7.      Students interested in volunteering at the Therapeutic Recreational Equestrian Center should check their school email or stop by the Guidance Office for additional information.

 

8.      Any senior who knows where they want their final transcripts sent, please sign the list in the Guidance Office.

 

9.      There is an after school chorus rehearsal in Mrs. Service's room from 2:45 to 3:45 today.   All are welcome!

 

10.  Any Girl that is interested in getting their Hair and make-up done for Prom for Free, stop in to see Miss Bolt in the library for a chance to get this opportunity.  Limited spots are available.

 

11.  The varsity baseball team beat Conneaut last night on senior night behind a complete game pitching performance by Corey Mason. The Jackets won 4-3. Blake Essman and Clay Schlosser led the offense both doubling for the Jackets. Essman scored twice and Schlosser had an RBI. Mason also had an RBI. The team is now 8-1 in region play and tied for first place. The next home game is Thursday vs. Northwestern.

Day 156— Tutorial Block # 1

 

1.      Juniors and Seniors are reminded that the deadline to register for the June 3rd SAT’s is next Tuesday, May 9th

 

2.      If you are interested in a career as an EMT or Paramedic, please come to the auditorium today during tutorail for a presentation by the CEO of Emergycare.  He will be able to answer any of your questions as well as details about the program they offer.  This is open to all juniors and seniors at GHS.

9.      Tomorrow, The Unified Track Team has a home meet at 4:00. Please come out and show your support as they take on Fairview, Ft. Lebeouf, and Northwestern.

1.      Juniors and Seniors are reminded that the deadline to register for the June 3rd SAT’s is next Tuesday, May 9th

 

2.      If you are interested in a career as an EMT or Paramedic, please come to the auditorium tomorrow for a presentation by the CEO of Emergycare.  He will be able to answer any of your questions as well as details about the program they offer.  This is open to all juniors and seniors at GHS.

 

3.      Student Council’s annual Seawolves field trip will take place Wednesday May 24th for all Freshmen.  Permission slips are available on the office counter, bring the completed slip with $9.00 to Mr. Mikovich’s room.  There are 90 spots available.

 

4.      The Envirothon Team will meet today during tutorial in Mrs. Schwartz’s room.

 

5.      There will be a Junior class meeting on Wednesday during Tutorial for ALL Juniors.

Reminder---The library will be closed this morning from 8:00-12:00 due to the AP testing. Please don’t send students down to print or work in here until after 12.

6.      There is chorus rehearsal after school today from 2:45 to 3:45 in the chorus room with Mrs. Service for those students who volunteered to be in the spring concert.   All are welcome.

 

7.      The Unified Track team put up a strong performance yesterday at Northwestern. The Jackets were led by Mikey Fails who grabbed first place finishes in both the 100 meters and the Long Jump. Amber Kramer earned second place points and Erin Schulz placed third in her heat of the 100 meters. Mikaila Boothe added third place points with a personal best time in the 400 meters. C.J. Lane also placed second in the 800 meters to help the team effort. The Unified Track team hosts Ft. LeBoeuf, Northwestern and Fairview next Wednesday. Come out to cheer them on!

 

8.      Reminder to 1st Block and 3rd Block Study Hall students you are to report to the lounge outside of Ms. Huster’s classroom for today.

4.      There will be a brief but very important meeting for all current marching band members, and those that plan to join next year. The meeting will be in the band room at 7:20 AM tomorrow.
