RAMS LEGO LEAGUE
RAMS First Robotics Team
On November 10 the RAMS Lego League teams participated in a local tournament at Penn State Erie, the Behrend College with over 30 other teams from around the area. The tournament consists of 2 components – a robot portion where teams must build a robot using LEGO blocks then program their robot to complete several missions based on a theme (this year’s theme was senior solutions), and a research project component where teams had to choose a problem facing today’s senior citizens and come up with an innovative solution to that problem.
Mrs. Donnelly’s team the Electrici-Bees, consisting of Lewis Kerner, Logan Erdman, KateLynn Vanhooser, Michael Wolff, Zach Wilson, Makayla King, Zoe Snyder, Ben Stewart, Emily Twichel, and Jake Wilczynski, took home the 1st place trophy for robot programming.
Mrs. Wolford’s team, The Electronic Jackets, consisting of Katie Buman, Devon Hall, Jill Koeck, Jordan Stancil, Nate Ward, Tanner Bryan, Jesse Illig, Tim Lehman, Aaron Thornton, and Collin Wozniak, took home the 2nd place trophy for their research project – a cookbook designed specifically for senior citizens, complete with large print and special recipes for certain dietary restrictions. This year’s local tournament was also a qualifier for the championship tournament in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Wolford’s team was one of only four teams from the region selected to move on to the Western PA Championship tournament at Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center in Pittsburgh on January 19th.
Mrs. Donnelly and Mrs. Wolford would like to congratulate all involved and wish the Electronic Jackets good luck in Pittsburgh!
